I just wanted to show you this link - to the Trinity amps forum where they have decent sound clips of a range of speakers played through 3 different amps. 'Clippage'? Is that where they drive the amps to clipping level?

This was a very interesting link you found here. I finally made it through all of the samples posted and was surprised at what sounded good and what didn't...no matter what they did to them...

No, it's like roughage for the amp; it keeps the the "tubes", the output transformer, and the speaker jacks "free and clear".
If you don't use it on occasion, things can get too clean and squeaky. You know, tight sounding as opposed to wide.
