Everyone was so helpful with the tab for "London Kid" Hank Marvin with Jean Michel Jarre.
Now I am looking for the backing track any ideas help have looked but I may be looking in the wrong places

Well, you don't ask much, huh...
Are you talking about the tabs for the rest of the instruments in the song, or a musical accompaniment?
Something this old and obscure is going to make it next to impossible to find the midi file to generate the backing tracks through a vsti in a mixing app.
I have the tabs for the rest of instruments the song, but all I've got. Will that work?

Curiosity is starting to get the best of me, though. It sounds like you're intending to perform this all by your lonesome or something ... What if you just play the youtube clip as the backing track and play your guitar along with it? Heck, what if you just play the youtube clip and play an unplugged guitar-hero axe along with it? ;D Come on, brother - inquiring minds want to know ... just what the heck are you up to? D2o

I would like the backing track to play along to. "But" I didnt think about playing along to it. I do two shows my main is the Pink Floyd and David Gilmour show I have pro backing tracks for every song old and new. And I also do a show occasionaly playing Hank Marvin songs. I have all the backing tracks again for everything he has done "except" London Kid I have been asked time and time again to play it. Its a shame there is no software out there that can cut out certain bits. So I will keep looking.
Thanks

Well, Guitar Pro can output their files to MIDI...and you could import them into Sonar, Cubase or a similar app and run the tracks through a vsti...but you'd need the software for that.
It can still be some work to get the imports clean enough for primetime...but in theory it could work.
There are services out there that can produce the backing tracks for you...but that's about as much as the software itself...
Good luck with this one. D2o put the link up to the Guitar Pro file earlier in this thread.

OK, Guitar Pro does knock out the individual instruments in their own MIDI tracks. So, it may be possible to come up with a passable backing track to play against.
I've got horses to feed and a meeting to go to tonight, so I'll try and knock this out over the next day or so. No promises, but I'll see what I can do.
Did you want the .mid file, a .wav or an .mp3 file?
If you get a knock on the door from the RIAA I don't know you...

EDIT: I have a bass, drum and choir track pulled out of the midi file done. I don't have the worlds greatest vsti instruments to work with, but it's better then a straight midi. This is going to take some time. How soon do you need this?

Well, don't speak too soon...you haven't heard it yet...
All 8 tracks are cut and I did a half hearted mix tonight. The drums came out pretty good and the synth parts seem to gel nicely. I may redo two of the tracks...choir is a hard thing to hit with what I've got here, and I don't want the 2nd lead to overpower your guitar. Keep in mind that I have freebie vsti instruments that I tweaked to excruciation, old headphones and Yamaha computer speakers to mix this...
I hope to have something up tomorrow night...Sunday at the latest.

Glynn - For better or worse, I have a first demo version of London Kid uploaded You can check it out here. London Kidd Backing TrackRun this through whatever you normally use at the gig to see how the mix works there. I can bang away at this thing forever here, but how it plays for you through your equipment is more important. I'm thinking the one TREM STRING track is too hot, and the drums might be too hot too. I'm not sure on the bass, as my speakers generally bleed from the eyes at anything below 100 hz. There's 8 tracks total, so let me know what jumps out too hot and I can drop it back. The lead for the keyboard mirrors the guitar for the most part. It does drift around it, so as long as you play what's in the tab the song will work. And, BTW, it just ends...no fades or crescendos...I threw a little reverb on the master to soften it...I hope... Happy Trails Cynical One

Glynn -
Glad it works for you. If you're happy with the mix then I'm happy.
Just leave a set of .105-.045 nickel flatwounds in a brown paper bag behind the 3rd dumpster west of the Chinese restaurant...

Well...thank you... This was really an experiment to see how cost effectively I could do this more then anything. And it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Technically, it was pretty straight forward. Guitar Pro broke the downloaded .gp5 file into an 8 track MIDI file. I just took the 8 tracks and processed each one through different vsti synthesizers in KRISTAL. I probably spent more time looking for free ones that worked in KRISTAL, and then beating the Hell out them to make it sound like the real song then anything else... The choir and pizzicato parts were the hardest to get close. For a few of the tracks I multi-tracked (same part with different vsti sources) or doubled (same part and vst source, one panned L and the other R) them just to fill them out and give them more stereo image. Once everything was leveled I just threw a little reverb on it and viola...instant backing track. The whole thing probably took 6-8 hours off and on for everything. Everything I used, with the exception of Guitar Pro 5 (around $50.00), was freeware. Granted, I downloaded a lot of free samples and plugins to find the ones that worked, but once you have a good library it gets easier... If you had some coin to spend I imagine you could do a flawless job. And no real instruments were harmed in the making of this backing track... Happy Trails Cynical One
