And to think that when Lyons bakery in UK first used a computer for business purposes (LEO, Lyons Electronic Office) IBM, in a press release, said that it would never catch on and they will stick with calculators.....LOL All true......

Looking at the old mainframes from the 50's and 60's reminded me of a slight aside...
A friend of mine was working on an early 60's convertible Impala in his shop. He only worked on it as time permitted, so he was always jacking it up and hauling it in and out. We found 4 IBM mainframe chassis for sale at a liquidation auction for $20.00 each. We cut the cabinets down and dropped the car onto the castered bottoms. We could then roll the car around on these things with just two people and no other devices.
Those cabinets were built like tanks. The car sat on them for two years rolling here and there and the old chassis never showed a bit of strain.
Not sure what the point of that anecdote was in this context...but I'm always happy when I remember something these days...
