Howdy, I have a couple strats with split coil HB's and wondered if it would be worth it to wire all the split coils to stacked concentric 250K/500K push/pull pots. One strat has 3 split rail HB's with 3 DPTT(HB/OFF/Split) switches and 3 500K pots, 1 vol and 2 tone. The HB's sound good individually as well as using them in any combo with each other. The SC's sound good with more than one activated but I'm thinking it could sound better with a 250K pot for a single SC(or would turning down the volume or tone be a comparable substitute for this) The other strat is a HSS with all 250 K pots(1 vol, 2 tone). The HB doesn't sound so hot on it's own in this guitar. I was thinking of either changing the volume pot to 500K or getting a stacked 250K/500K and using 250K with the HB in split mode and the 500K for the HB mode. I was wondering if anyone of you ever tried it or think it would make sense to do this and I'd love to hear any reasoning behind your opinions. Would also like any suggestions concerning adding tone caps into the mix to get a better sound out of either the HB or split modes. I have read a lot of posts stating that you can never get a true strat sound out of a split coil HB so I am really leaning towards getting some good SC's and loading them on one of my strats(after I get my S&G's out of these projects of course ;D)

Howdy yourself, hager I wouldn't replace them. Usually we see people going the other way - adding a 500K instead of a 250K, knowing that they can dial the tone back to 7 or 8 to equal what was the 250K tone. I like your second idea better, because it seems like it would add some versatility in one step - you could do both and also add a 500K volume pot, or even use two 500K pots (have a look at this post on pot suggestions as well). newey will be along to add some roman about Star Trek people seasoning to taste, but in the meantime I'll try: åðéèõìþ ôï üëá, áëëÜ ôçí åðï÷Þ ãéá íá äïêéìÜóùD2o

Stacked concentric (as in two pot elements) with a push pull switch. That's three functions.

Yes.

For your second guitar, is there any merit in looking at either something like the Fender TBX or maybe even a no load pot? D2o

Thanks for the advice folks. I have been playing around with the volume and tone controls on guitar #1 and I like the tone I am getting with the coils split and the tone rolled down on the 500K pots so I think I'm going to change the volume pot in guitar #2 from 250K to 500K. Maybe later I'll toy with some alternative pots but for now, I am going to experiment with some different pickups in this guitar.
Guitar # 2 has had a run of bad luck but it's coming together. I had a couple high fret issues which I was able to fix with a crown file and the 2 Fender lace sensor pickups(discussed in earlier post) I was going to put into it were DOA. I found a guy that will rewind/repair them to original specs for $20 each. I also found a Fender CS 69 middle and a Fender 57/62 set that I'm going to give a spin so that should keep me busy for a spell. ;D
