I'm looking to upgrade the speakers in my Fender Frontman and I've found some good prices on Eminence 'Legend' speakers, but looking at the Eminence tone charts, they appear to be a bit more of a budget line. I have heard talk of them being the speakers used in Fender Hot Rods, but does anyone know anything about them? Could they be the speakers in the Frontman series anyway? I guess the crux of the matter is whether they will be much of an upgrade, or just changing like for like. I am primarily looking at the Legend 1258, for a Jensen/JBL type tone, if that makes any difference. Thanks, Andy

I have heard as many good things about them as anyone. However, what caught my eye is your mention of it being a JBL clone ... JBL ... that means something. In this thread, sumgai mentions JBL, and we even find a supplier of what is purported to a modern-day equivalent (Weber link enclosed - below). LP, FYI - I didn't realize that the Weber site hides the California speakers. Under "Products", you have to select "Weber Speakers", and then a new window pops up and you will find them in the menu to the left as part of the "High Power Series". Clicking on it expands the menu, and if you scroll down you'll find a 15" section, and a selection for "California 15", in either AlNiCo ($235) or ceramic ($115). D2o

Thanks for the link there. I'll keep them in mind, as Weber seem to have a pretty good reputation. In fact I'm surprised that news of a well priced direct JBL replica isn't splashed all over the internet!
Those Eminences come in much cheaper over here though... I'm looking at just over £70 for a pair including the postage.

The ones stock in the HRD are really awful sounding. But they are the so called "special design" and should be a little different.
