I just bought a GCB-95 Crybaby wah on the cheap off ebay. It was under $30 including shipping. It's been loved a lot and had at least one input jack replaced over the years. I don't see any other obvious changes. This is only my 2nd wah. My 1st was a Jax Hurricane with the siren button that my size 14's always managed to activate while using the wah. I got rid of that pedal in a hurry.
Anyway, I've tried this out hooked up to a power adapter that plugs into the battery connector. Here's the problem: With a clean signal, you can hear a slight "whooshing" from the pedal when it's off. When it's on, the signal drops off so bad that you have to turn the amp up half way to hear anything but the effect seems to work okay. With distortion the difference isn't nearly as bad but the wah effect is barely discernible from one "position" of the pedal to the other.
Is this normal behavior for one of these and if so is there a fix? Or do I need to start checking for problems in the circuit? Any thoughts?

Hey, toast Have you tried to replicate the condition when using batteries? What happens? Are you using other pedals in combination with the wah as well? Modding pedals is not my thing, but it seems some other people have been less than enamoured also. I came across this page that seems to be dedicated to modding wah pedals. The malady described in the linked page doesn't quite match yours, but I hope it helps as at least some sort of starting point. Cheers, D2o
