Hi:
A luthier friend did some restoration for me on a modified Gibson archtop, and he put NOS Kluson Deluxe tuners back on it, around 1988.
We were talking about relubing the tuners as they are getting stiff, but we live 1000 miles or so apart now.
I am having a hard time finding pics to confirm...it looks to me like I will NOT be able to take the covers off easily. It looks like the two rear screws are what hold the tuner to the neck, and the over has bent tabs 'inside'. I hear they do not like to be bent more than 1-time-less-than-1-time-too-many.
Is all this an accurate interpretation of what I see in pics on line?
If so I guess that means recommended white lithium grease is not an option...3 in 1, TriFlow, etc, were alternates.
I have something else...some synthetic bike lube oil...
Should I be worried about some mystery compound migrating or outgassing & trashing the nitrocellulose finish?
Thanks
Murray

Thank you.
I used synthetic oil with my friend's OK...made little difference.
Took them off again, cleaned them, and found an (aerosol) can of white lithium grease I only needed once for another project. My friend uses the non-aerosol stuff, but I didn't want to pry them open again. The aerosol evaporates off quickly and isn't supposed to run.
I let them sit overnight for solvent evaporation before putting them back on. That helped a little.
Good enough to use for now anyway.
