Hello to all Has anyone potted ( Waxed ) a Texas special for a Tele in the neck position ?
I'm changing out the pups to Texas Specials, & also shielding the cavities with copper foil. Should I consider potting the neck pup with wax. also, or is this just Overkill ? I planed on leaving the cover on.
Thanks for a reply

Seems odd to me that they don't pot them for that price... All in the name of vintage, I suppose... I'm not sure on specs of those bad boys.
Anyway, wax potting and shielding are going to do two different things. Shielding eliminates electrical interference by blocking it with a conductive, grounded material, while potting reduces feedback from high Sound Pressure Levels by impregnating the pickup with wax to keep those tiny little parts from feeding back when they feel noise.
So not so much overkill as multiple bases covered.
If you ask me, potting is more important than shielding for a gigging guitarist. Bedroom players will notice that electrical interference more, but on stage it's the feedback that gets ya.
Funny thought, here... I never notice electrical interference except when the guitar signal stops... Bah, just keep playing. I mean, really... no one takes drum solos seriously.
