I was wondering, how much electricity is needed to power some LEDs? I have an empty cavity on my soon to be made Warmoth strat (who need neck pups?), and I was wondering what I would need to get some LEDs in there. I would prefer they are only on when the jack is plugged in, if not, I could find a small switch to put in the cavity. Any ideas?

How many is "some" LEDs? You will want to use high efficiency LEDs that are specified at 2 mA of current. Different colors may/will have different operating currents for similar levels of illumination. If possible, you will want to put each group of three in series (to share the same operating current). This can usually be done from a 9 VDC battery. LEDs require a series current limiting resistor. I would suggest that the LEDs be purchased from a competent company such as www.digikey.com that publish actual electrical specifications for their products.

This is a pretty basic thing. Just make sure the LED's arent in line with your tonal electronics other wise they will effect your sound.
You can use a stereo output jack, ground the battery and wire the led (-)to the second stereo prong. That way, when your guitar is plugged in the battery (-) and the led (-) will be connected.
If you need a little sketch I can do that, just let me know what youre doing for pickups, pots and switches.

I wasn't going to say anything, but LED's never make your guitar look "cool." They definitely get you noticed.
And yes, that idea works, I've built it before.
And yes, its really me. I graduated high school and moved to Milwaukee for college. I have a lot more time now that I'm not in track and dont work.

yea, I thought hard about the LED thing, and figured it was a stupid idea. It seemed like a cool idea for about 20 minutes though, just like tieing 20 bottle rockets together and lighting simultaneously.

Hey John, can you pSpice a bottle rocket coming out of an output jack? Listen up all you newbies, vonFrenchie may be a youngster, but he has good cred here. Pay attention, he might trip your trigger to a new idea or two. vF, good to have ya back! sumgai

Gotta give credit where credit is do. Thanks though. Its a nice feeling, like finding an old pair of shoes that still fit well.
