I've been working on a new strat. The body is swamp ash and was made by USA Custom Guitars. The difficult part of the shielding process was that the body is hollow, so the control cavity did not have solid walls. It took three weeks of measuring and gluing to get the shielding installed. It worked though! I'll try to post more pictures as I go if anyone is interested.

Nice job so far, ST!
I like the finish, did you do that yourself?

A guy named Marty Bell in California painted it for me. I haven't been able to get a good picture of the way the flakes really look. I think the flash on my camera is messing it up. It looks great in person, but more aqua-blue.

I've finished the guitar and I'm ready to send it to the luither to have the nut installed. This is the best picture I've gotten of the finish:

A couple of more pics.... The electronics: Thankfully, the luthier who is installing the nut replaced the electrical tape with shrink wrap tubing. Another view: I bought the pickguard shield from Monte Allums. This last picture is after I installed the string ferrules:

Great paint job. I love shooting flake bodies. Not as people do this as I wish would. I bet that thing just lights up when you get sun on it.

Thanks. It really does light up in the sun. You can hardly look at it in direct sunlight.
I enjoyed looking at the flake finishes on your website. They look really good. I especially enjoyed the rainbow flake paint job that you did. That was awesome! I bet it took a lot of work.

Yeah flake finishes can be very time intensive.

It's a Holland MusiCap. I ended up switching it out for a regular orange drop. It cut all the highs out of the guitar and didn't work very well.
This guitar was a pain to get put together. I had all kinds of trouble with the neck joint and bridge routing. I was a little perplexed by it. Everything I read about USA Custom was great before I ordered it, but I definitely wouldn't buy anything from there again.
The body is hollow and the sound is REALLY bright. After playing it a while, I think he could have reduced the size of the sound cavity by 65% and still gotten a nice resonance out of it. As it is, it has very little attack, especially one you get up past the 12th fret.
I did take a long time to do the shielding. It was a lot of fun.
