Is it ok to use hand sanitizer to clean guitars? I'm cleaning up and changing the strings of my friend's squier... it's pretty messed up and dirty so I decided to clean it up for him... out of pity for the poor guitar so there was some glue residue at the back of the head stock... I randomly decided to use some hand sanitizer on it and rub it clean using a paper towel. Worked like a charm. Now, the body of the guitar has old fingerprints and sticky dust that just won't come off if I wipe it with a dry cloth. Can I use hand sanitizer to clean it all up? I think it might do a better job than just using water...?

I'd be careful- it probably has alcohol in it which might not be the thing for the finish.
I usually use Lemon Pledge . . .

I use Lemon Pledge to wax my car. I wouldn't do it if it was a white guitar, though. I know my cousin yellowed up his car like that. It still looks good, he applied it VERY evenly, but there is a blatant yellow tint to it.

If you know what type of finish the guitar has that would be useful information.
I'm not supposed to let the Gibson (wine red nitro cellulose lacquer) be in long term contact with some varieties of foam rubber... *shrugs*
This particular Gibson is also very difficult to clean, for that matter. It has a rather large area that my eye would describe as a "dry spot" behind the bridge. It developed shortly after I got it, but I always assumed I'd be able to fix it somehow.
Any ideas?
