This small clone chorus I'm building calls for a 2n5087 transistor, but I don't have any although i have about 10 other different types. Would anyone know what I could replace it with?

♭eric, Common lore has it that the BC560c should do the trick, but the pinout is backwards. If you're plugging it in as a direct substitute, that might cause a problem. For your own boards, you can design and build accordingly. Other possibilities include: 2N3962, 2N3963, 2N5086, BC556, and BC557. I didn't look for any pinout info on them though, so pay attention if go down one of those paths. And for the record, DigiKey (in the USA) has 2N5087's for a paltry $0.11 apiece. They're quite a bit more on your side of the pond, but at least they have 'em in stock: search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=2N5087GOS-NDJust something to consider, tha's all. thanks sumgai, i have some 3906 and 556's that should do. I hate having to pay £12 postage for couple of 11c transistors.

♭eric, Yer welcome! ;D But bear in mind, I specifically did not recommend the two "all purpose - does everything" PNP transistors (2N3906 and 2N4403) because they are not low-noise, high-gain units. I think that if you plug one of these in to your circuit, the thing will work, but you're likely to have more noise than you care for. For future reference, if you need to look around 'cause your parts bin is empty, try for lower collector current devices, in order to keep the noise to a minimum. Design your circuits accordingly, and all should be well. HTH sumgai

aww, was trying to get rid of the 3906's, but thx for the comments, i did not know they were likely to be noisier. I'll see if I can buy some 5087's then from my local outlet. Cheers matey
