double twinblade humbuckers

???just out of curiosity does any one know what would happen if you connected two single coils together and install them in place of a humbucker because i was thinking of connecting two carvin twinblade huumbuckers together and adding some mini switches for coil taps or series just to experament has any one tried this because i know that it should get some interesting sounds ;D

i recently purchased a prewired pickguard assembly with twinblade type humbuckers in the neck and bridge positions. the bridge pickup is basically two twinblades wired in series with a coil split. using both humbuckers of the bridge pickup with a lot of distortion sounds very muddy to me, especially the low e string.

If wired in series, they will be MUCH hotter.
If wired in parallel, they will be MUCH colder. (except parallel coil tap)

The problem is about magnetic interference between the two pups; as said in earlier thread, a single pup is commonly designed to work on its own magnetic field; if 2 magnetic field from 2 pups is combined, its original tone could be altered.

..But this is a free world ! Feel free to experiment, if you have enough time (and cash) to spend; Don't forget to tell us all about the results, too. ;D

Where would the world be without experimentation? I was looking at the carvin blades myself and was curious as to how they would sound for a metal guitarist.

well tried it (took a while to get the time to do it ) the sound was very muddy not at all what i expected but hey thats what these tests are for ;D

I've done similar things w/ types of single coil PUs. The Rio Grande Twangbucker bridge PU in an aftermarket Strelly that I'm building is exactly two single coils side by side.

DiMarzio makes (?made) a dual twin blade humbucker called the Multibucker. I have one, and of course had taken it apart. It's essentially a Fast Track1 twin blade (hot/middy) and a Chopper twin blade (hotter/middy'er). Most reviews that I've seen indicate that it gets real muddy when in series. Parallel methinks is better, but it really ain't a great metal PU.

Since I took it apart, I also cut some PCB traces and brought out all four coils separately. I asked DiMarzio about the magnetic pole orientation (the two innermost poles were the same polarity) and they said they had to to reduce the field interaction.

There is also a humbucker made like this by Kent Armstrong, I believe...it's called the motherbucker. Essentially 4 single coil pickups crammed side by side into the space of one humbucker. I have no personal experience with this, but I've often wondered what could be done with it. It has all 8 wires available so that you can do any amount of combinations.

MIGHTY MITE just re-released their motherbucker recently. i believe the motherbucker originated with them back in the 70s. it was the size of 2 HBs though, making it somewhat impractical. i believe the new one is normal HB size like the ARMSTRONG.
