I picked up 2 Univox Pro-Mag 12's for $20 to put in my 4x12 cabinet for the time being, until I can get enough money for the Wizards I want. Boy, I learned what it means when people talk about "honkers!" Some nice vintage tones from my little 5W Fender Champ; I think the breakup is just about right for me. I'd get some sound samples, but I can't seem to dial in a tone that doesn't make me wanna vomit (in good and not-so-good ways) and my head is still throbbing! If these alnicos are "inefficient" like I'm reading on the web, I'm not sure if I can handle the volume of anything more "efficient." I'm sure I need to move the cab to a bigger room so it can b r e a t h e. I have surpassed "bedroom level" rating and shot straight to "police visit!!!" Thought/helps on configuration? Should I put them both top or bottom instead of X? Should I take the 2 blown Celestions out to leave front ports? I put the back baffle on after I couldn't get enough low range with it open...maybe I should construct a 1/3 or 3/4 baffle? Maybe I should just build a 2x12 cabinet for these?

Sweet spot - hmm, depends. All over, but I'm going to say 9. It goes to 12! Then there's the higher gain channel - anywhere from 4-8. Also depends on the pickups, guitar, and where the volume pot is. And then there are the phase switches, solo switches, effects pedals. The stock speaker is a kinda-crappy 6", but still lights up an 800 sq. ft. room; the 12's are louder and more full, of course. Kinda like a late 60's/early 70's binge hangover...if you put it to music in mono and cranked it. And I was still a kid in the 80's! I originally wanted WGS Veteran 30's because they sound more close to the rare Celestion GT12M75 I have in my 25w Randall combo. I'm not too big a fan of the Celestion Vintage 30 or the 60w model. I'm pretty much sold on the Eminence Wizards for over all sound (raw tone, dirt, and clarity) and price, and by the time I got the WGS speakers to my door I would have been about $7 shy of better speakers. I'm thinkin' these pro-mags would sound great with a hollowbody and maybe a little vibrato...

oh , i was thinking the Champ was a basic 5 w tube amp ... crank the volume knob till you get the perfect amount of saturation and let 'er rip . sort of like an Epiphone Valve Jr ... well , i guess the VJ would be like the vintage amp i was thinking of not the other way around

The Champ is a basic 5w tube amp. I like it better than the Epi.
