I just bought a brand new (slightly used) Fender Twin Amp!
Not "The Twin!" Not "Evil Twin!" And certainly not a "Twin Reverb!"
Yes, the Twin Amp is a beast. It's running 100w (switchable to 25w) into 2x12 speakers. Single input, two channels, footswitchable trem, reverb, channel selector, and effects loop. Effects loop so far has been used only as a boost, but it may be used otherwise in the future.
First of all, the clean channel. Fender clean, the end. It's beautiful. My first night gigging with it, I let the band before me break it in, since they busted some tubes and the lead guitarist was ampless. When I started playing, I was feeding a blackguard tele into it. Oh boy. In middle position, I could dig in and get some funk, neck position I was getting amazingly soft fingerpicking (sorry, the band wanted stairway. I tried to say no...), and the classic bridge country twang.
The dirty channel, is sort of confusing. With that tele bridge, I had her screaming. When I used my bucker equipped guitars, it was straight fuzz though. Thankfully, I had a homemade Big Muff Pi and OD that set that all straight.
The reverb is one of those Fender spring reverbs. Great from 1-4, after 5 things get a little fishy.
Tremolo, I didn't use it that much, but for an Aretha song we did, it did what I told it to do.
Oh yea, it is all tube.
Overall, I would give this amp an 8 out of 10.
While I was impressed at first with the dirty channel, after using it more it seemed like a one trick pony, and a feature that probably could have been dropped. I would rather of have two clean channels than a dirty (local amp guru, here I come?). With this amp, I am going to need a pedal board, simply because of the lack of a useable dirty channel. With 100w, it has enough power to play any medium sized gig without a PA, and the quarter power switch is very nice for gigs with a PA.

Might the O/D channel clean up if you use some clean valves... Like ones that have a lot of clean headroom, not ones that have been polished

That could be a good idea. I just know that as is, I wouldn't use it.
I am going to have to wait a while before I have anything done to it, but I'm going to keep thinking...

stratty, Read me the tube complement, eh? I wanna be sure that we're talking about the same amp here, instead of my guessing what you've got. I'll suggest a few tube substitutions that might work to reduce the gain to something usable. And if you know what year it was made, that'd be good to pass along too. BTW, congrats - I think you're gonna like this puppy.... until you turn about 50 or so, when you start thinking more about your back than your tone. But until then, Highway Star here you come! ;D sumgai

Model Number: 021-5700-000
Tube Complement: 4 x 6L6 2 x 12AX7A 5 x 12AX7WA 1 x 12AT7 Solid State Rectifier
HIGHWAY STAR! I knew I forgot to play something. I don't know when the next gig is, but it WILL be played.
Trust me, this thing is a pig to carry around. But if it's between hauling that amp around, or stooping over a low table all day at work, I would choose the amp.
