Just wondering, so 500k tone pots offer the whole tone and 250k ones block out some of the brightness right? Now my guitar has 2 tone controls but now one is useless because the other is wired as a master tone. Would it be possible to wire both of these 250k pots to be master tones together? I don't know if this makes sence but 250+250=500 lol right? So that 10 on both tones would be like 10 on one 500k and 10 on just one would be like 5 on the 500k and like 10 on a stock tone control sry if i was rambling...

well, happyguy, your math adds up, but unfortunately there is no addition with potentiometers, only subtraction. pots bleed frequncies to ground (what i meant by "subtraction"), either the treble (as in the case of a tone pot) or all of them (as in the case of a volume pot, although usually the treble is first to go.) 250K pots are designed to slightly dampen the trebles on a single coil guitar. putting 2 in a row would just be redundant. what you'd need is a regular 500K pot, which does let more of the higher frequncies through. some say too much. others opt for the fender tbx pot, which you can switch off so that the lead bypasses the pots and goes right to the output. of course, your pickup will also determine what kind of pot you need. it's possible that yr PU will sound the same at 10 w/ a 250K pot as w/ a 500K. also, each pot works slightly differently (i.e. has a different sweep). your own needs + ears decide what you need. check out this basic pot info: post www.kinman.com/html/toneWorkshop/perfectGuitar.htm#magnets

Read the article contained in the link you provided "bam" and that pretty much explains it all. A really good link, with a lot of useful info. I think we need to start an informaton post containing the most common tips for the newer "NUTS" to be able to browse at their leisure. Something to think about. If any of you guys are game, start it up. I have a few to contribute. There are other members that I am sure would comtribute as well.
