Hey guys. In Leesburg, Va there is a store called Melodee Music. A fellow named Larry (don't want to put his last name on the ole' internet) works with this store doing amp refurbishing and modifications. Just wondering if anyone on here has any experience working with this fellow. Any thing extra good to say about him?

Though I drive through there occasionally for business, I don't get to see the sights, so to speak. I have found that you have to 'feel' out shopowners in this business. I have met some honest, gonna-help-you-out-no-matter-what fellows, and I have also met some gonna-rip-your-leg-off-to-get-your-wallet fellows too. I have found you can pretty much get a feel for their honor by spending some time in the shop and talking to patrons. Can't help you any more.
BTW, what are you looking to do, if you don't mind sharing?

jcgss77, Thanks for the reply. I wish I could hang out there more but it's about a 2 hour drive for me. But, I think it's the closest place that will take my amp and not make me wait 2-3 months to get it back. As far as the work, I have a silverface Deluxe. It needs new caps and I would like to have it Blackfaced. Not a whole lot to be done but I don't have any experience with working on amps and I don't want to mess this one up because it's kind of a third generation heirloom. I'm thinking I'll take a picture of all the caps and then look at what he's done when I get it back. I don't think he'll rip me off but I'm not completely sure either.

Well, from my experience, anyone who has been around for 40 years, and survived the mega chain and Internet phenomenon, must be dong something right.
Call them, tell them what you've got and what you think it needs. Any good shop will defer judgment until they see it, or refer you to someone who does the job better. Ask to speak to the guy who does the amp repairs and feel him out. All of the better shops I've been to for amp repair, not that I've had that many, (...that's why I love Peavey bass amps...) but they've all given free estimates and left it to you to fix it or pick it up. No harm, no foul.
