It is.
Wasn't it Tom Morello who said he didn't learn to play anybody else's tunes because he wanted to develop his own approach? And yet, my approach to learning the guitar in my youth was Wednesday-lunchtime lessons and PowerTab.

On the subject of guitars that are also game controllers, there's this for $199: You-Rock-GuitarWorks as a MIDI controller, as an electronic guitar/synth or as a game controller for any game system with an appropriate plug-in cartridge. Of course, it isn't a real guitar like the Squier above, but then I doubt the Squier is $199 either.

I always felt the whole Guitar Hero thing was a half-assed attempt that missed the point.
This would be an incredible teaching and collaborative tool, especially with the MIDI out. Too bad entertainment trumped education and creativity...
