I just finished modding my vc508 with the info given on this site. however, the volume has dropped a good bit with the added preamp saturation. I also replaced the op amp with a NE5532P in hopes to reduce unwanted noise. I can now plug into the line out stereo jack 3/4 down in and I receive a very loud clean signal I assume through the power amp. The old volume pot does absolutely nothing pretty much useless. Why do they bother to keep it in the print if it no longer works. I would have eliminated it altogether in the print unless I'm missing something here which is entirely possible. the only way to slightly boost the signal I have inserted a 1/4" plug into the line out when I want to distort the preamp through the circuit. correct me if I'm wrong here please, but isn't the idea of a preamp to boost the signal before the power amp? Does anyone recognize these symptoms in the crate? here is the link to the section I am referencing

Has anyone responded to you about your problems? I just did the same mod and lost pretty much all volume. The signal is completely distorted, the tone control works like it was supposed to, but the old volume knob is useless and, even when I put a plug in the line out the volume is extremely low.
I undid the volume mods, removed the master volume I had added according to the instructions, and still the volume/distortion problems persist. Any chance you found the solution?

kwheaton-
Hello and welcome!
I don't know why no one responded to antennajim, other than perhaps no one had a good answer to the problem.
Now that you've added your experience, maybe someone will chime in.
