Hello all,
Is it possible to fit a strat bridge pickup into the bridge position of a tele?
Does it need a different rout? R

I actually succeeded in doing that - it is a pain - but it can be done. For one thing, the Telecaster bridge pickup is attached to a 3 screw mounting plate under the metal plate which is visible. I built my own out of an electrical box cover plate. (As you may have noticed the Strat pickup has 2 holes at its very ends which cannot be used to mount it in that metal bridge plate. I think if you drilled 2 NEW holes in that plate, the Strat pickup would be too wide.) Another problem (as mentioned above) is that the bridge pickup is a tight fit. I had to grind down the Strat pickup to a dimension where it was getting dangerously close to the windings. (Yes the fit is that tight). So, if you can make your own mounting plate (which fits UNDERNEATH the bridge plate) and if you can grind the Strat pickup down so that it fits, yes it can be done. If you use a grinding wheel for grinding the pickup just be VERY careful. My efforts were accident free but the pickup could be irreversibly damaged with just one slipup. Not that you would, but just in case, NEVER grind the pole pieces of a pickup - they will permanently lose their magnetism.

As "Wolf" has stated, this can be done but I must also emphasize as well, use -- --EXTREME CAUTION-- -- when grinding anywhere on the pup itself. There are replacement pup's out there that will give you a more meaty sound with little to no modification's at all. I suggest you look into Lace(tm) T-150's. They have an awesome sound and are rated at anywhere between 12.7K and 13.3K resistance with 6.4 induction.---;D--- www.lacemusic.com/store/product.asp?id=35&catid=49Terrific bite and attack and will transform your Tele(tm) into a monster--- --- Just go to eBay, or better yet, here is the link I use for most of my pup's. He does'nt show any T-150's on the site, but send him a e-mail and he will cut you a real deal.--- --- search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZegzegz
