Hi all. I've done the true bypass and LED mods to this pedal. I then replaced the 390r (gain mod) with a 500 ohm trim pot soldered directly to the board. Ditto for the 33K resistor in parallel with the inductor (vocal mod): a 100k trim pot. I replaced the .022 sweep cap with a NOS .015 (see pic), and finally replaced the 1k5 resistor between the base of Q1 and the inductor with a 2k (midrange mod). I adjusted the rack and pinion to go to the treble end of the sweep. I'm having a problem with distorted bass at the heel position, and a position in between heel and toe where the pot acts like a switch - suddenly going from bass to treble very abruptly (this is interesting because initially the pedal didn't have enough "quack", now it has too much). I'd hoped that the mid-range mod (changing the 1.5k to 2k would smooth out this transition, but no. Maybe 2.2 or 2.7k?). Current setting on the trim pots are 80k for the vocal Q and 500 ohms for the gain. I think I might try a 1k trim for the gain because it seems like gain is the problem, but I'd need to order it (or try swapping out values between 500 and 1k). I tried different guitars and amps with the same results, so I'm pretty sure that the problem is in the pedal. Can Anyone see an obvious contradiction in my settings or offer another way to deal with this distorted bass? I'm ordering the Fasel red inductor (and if I like it, a yellow to switch between the two), but I have no idea how that will play in the mix. The pot is a 100k. Should I be looking at a 500k? Are there any resistor tricks I could use at the pot to change the curve? I'm assuming that it's a linear pot. I should also mention that the pedal makes a thump when I switch it on. I thought that this was not possible the way I have it wired. I attached the ground wire (from the switch) to the pot. Should it be elsewhere? I mention this because it bothers me, but also because it might be a clue! Thanks for any help! Click for bigger version:
