No. In series would make it 16 ohms. In parallel would make it 4 ohms.

Well, just to make it really uncomplicated, basically you want the speakers to be hooked up like this:

cool thanks guys. Say let me just get even more annoying. Lets say I was wiring my speaker cab. If I was to have one input jack would I wire 2 hots to either speaker and 2 neg to either speaker coming from the input jack? Also I am using a spliter right now that I think basically works as a parallel wiring sorta thingy . See my amp is an old bassman piggyback with one output and Im using a stereo cab with 2 inputs. So I use the splitter coming out of my amp with 2 cables to either jack and its been working fine i just was wondering if this splitter is actually working parallelish. Any ideas? Thanks Damian

yes, if you want the speakers paralleled.
It depends on your splitter. Passive splitters (the simplest ones are jacks that have 1 in, 2 out) are "parallelish" but if it's an active Y-box, you should read its manual first.

thanks Bam the splitter I have is the very simple kind with one in and two out. I started thinking about it and it must be parallel. Any feelings on if its better to use the simple(cheap) splitter or to wire directly to the input jack in terms of sound quality? Thanks Damian

Read this. The same principle also applies to splitters.
