Found a guitar I like that has one issue that may not be an issue...a poorly matched two-piece neck. I got to wondering if two-piece necks are common, and maybe I'd never noticed because the match was always better. Any words of wisdom?

bigjee- Don't worry about it- 2 or 3 piece necks are common; a good glue joint is stronger than the surrounding wood fibers. Is this a guitar you're thinking about buying? If so, buy it & enjoy. -lpf3

What you've got there is not uncommon at all. As long as the glue joint is solid there is no practical difference from a one piece carved heel and what you have.
This is done frequently. It allows the builder to use more affordable sizes of wood, reuse smaller cut offs or scrap pieces and generates less waste then carving from a solid blank. Not so much on unpainted necks, but it's not an anomaly by any means.
The glue joint is actually stronger then the wood, so if anything, you neck heel joint is stronger then a one piece heel.
Finally, you also see this on repairs of either the headstock or heel. I doubt yours is a repair as the joint looks too clean.
Long and short of it is if the guitar intonates, stays in tune and plays well just enjoy it and don't sweat the the non-issues.

Yep, I want to buy it. Have to travel hundreds of miles, however, so that's the only issue left. Thanks for the info!

If it plays well and the neck isn't warped then treat it like any other guitar you're looking to buy. The two piece heel shouldn't even be a factor for you to consider.

Thanks much, O' Cynical 1. If I was paying you for advice, I'd be broke.

Well...thanks for the nod. Glad to help. However, if I was going to get rich doing this I'd have probably done it by now... Just here to shorten the learning curve and stick pins in sacred cows and myths.
