Pedal time again, this one's finally finished off after knocking around half-complete for the past 4 months. It's a clone of the splendid Xotic BB Pre-amp; basically a classic Tubescreamer overdrive unit but with an active eq section by way of treble and bass controls run off a separate TL072 op-amp chip. A really good transparent overdrive tone means you preserve the characteristics of your guitar while adding bite and overdrive to the tone. With gain down it also acts as a clean boost or a treble boost circuit. Very versatile pedal and a great addition to the growing board of fun.

Cool!
Is it built from a kit, or is it your own thing?
I couldn't find anything definitive on Sonic Kitchen on Google!

Heh - Sonic Kitchen is my homemade brand name for the pedals I put together, these are not in a kit, its gleaned from schematics and pcb pics found around the internet. Graphics are self-adhesive inkjet film

cool, man. I guess it's pretty similar to the Bad Monkey, having the treble and bass controls. Are you a web guy? The name is the same as a website hit counter software

Not a web guy. Here's another one put together for a guitarist friend and Apple freak:

Not to drag this from the bin, but I've been looking at the BB preamp pedal a bit more recently, but don't feel like dropping the coin for it retail.
Where did you find the schematics and such for this one? I've been looking for either the Xotic BB or RC all over, but can't find any joy.

Two days later, and I too would like to know where you found the schematics... This is something I'm interested in throwing on my rack...

Guys- eric probably hasn't spotted your responses yet, but we've had this discussion before. As eric noted above, he gleans what he knows from viewing PCBs online and from other online sites. For most pedals which are still being produced by manufacturers, reprinting of their schematics here will run afoul of the copyright laws and is something we can't allow. Eric has always declined to provide schematics on this board for that reason. Many of the classic FX designs are no longer in production, and their schematics, if not technically in the public domain yet, are so universally scattered over the net that I doubt anyone need worry about enforcement. All the DIY sites focus on these classic designs, since they're either legally, or realistically, fair game. But, if we're talking about circuits still in production, well, there's a reason why your Google search didn't provide much info! To the extent y'all can figure it out for yourselves, or perhaps travel to Merry Olde England and pry the info out of eric over a warm pint, have at it. But we can't have copyrighted schematics being reprinted here.

Well, as we are a site hosted in the US I can understand the dark shadow of the DMCA is something no one wants to deal with. Fair use or research intentions aside...FSB is already fighting that battle, so I guess it's a good idea that we stay out of it.
However, there are still countries that aren't bound by the DMCA, so I'll just start using the Google translator...
Nevermind.

Please don't take offense, it's just one of those things I'm a bit touchy about- although I'm sure I've violated it more than once myself, at least inadvertently.
But, having said that, I'll bet you a bright boy could figure it out. He said it's like a TS (and there are schematics galore for that)- but with added tone controllability.
And the similar unit he made for his Mac-philic buddy has a populated circuit board photo next to the photo of the unit.
This is actually sort of fun, an exercise in reverse engineering of sorts, allowing one to get in touch with his/her inner Sherlock Holmes. Or pretending to be an NSA traffic analyst or something.

No offense taken.
And I can rip apart mechanical\pneumatic\hydraulic systems and work out all the moving bits...but electronics has always been an dark hole of mystery for me. I guess it comes down to the fact that if I can see it move I can figure it out...if I can't see it move, MEGO and I move along. Just getting the designs for the guitar projects I have has been a struggle. They work, but I'll be damned if I can fully explain why.
If I can see a BOM and a non-schematic drawing I can fake it...show me a schematic and it's like ordering the Disney Channel for the Anti-Christ...somewhat pointless...
And don't get me started on protecting Corporate interests in the US...
I'll dig around and find it. I like the AC and RC boosters for different reasons. If I can find a BOM and PCB layout I can figure a way to combine the two so they meet in the middle just for my own amusement. And based on my recorded build speed my threat as a competitor to anyone but a money launderer is negligible.
Happy Trails

When I went to google images with the term "xotic bb preamp schematic" it came up with both schematics and layouts for the AC/RC Boosters.

Yeah, I found those, too. I also found the parts swaps to create one or the other pedal. I'll probably have questions on these once I have a clue on what I'm looking at...

hi guys, been away for a bit, I think the schematic was Glitterrati or something like that, it was just through googling for BB pre-amp that it popped up. Nice circuit.

I found that shortly after talk of lawyers reared it's ugly head in the discussion...so I let it slide. While I was at MadBeans I discovered the EgoDriver, which is based on the OCD. I always liked the tones Trower got out of his, so I'm on the fence. I also managed to scare up some stuff on the AC and RC pedal. Both of these also have my attention. I need to study up on etching, board level soldering and all the skills necessary to keep my project from becoming landfill fodder. Thanks for the heads up. Happy Trails Cynical One
