howdy,
i'm about to convert a squier strat from having 3 single coils to a bridge humbucker, keep the middle single and another hum in the neck.
i was wondering if i can just 'sub' the wiring of the bridge and neck singles for the humbuckers or is it, as i fear, more complicated than that?
any advice or suggestions would be appreciated as i'm a newbie to wiring....
thanks chris

First off, greetings and welcome to the Nutzhouse.
And to answer your question...yes...and no...
If all you want to do is run the humbuckers in series, with no split, then yes, as long as you wire them per the correct wire color scheme, then you can just rip out the single coils and drop in the humbuckers. With a two wire humbucker you don't have to worry about the additional options, or you can just twist off the appropriate pair of a 4-wire for your pickup model and go.
However, if you want to do coil splits to match the middle single coil, or to achieve a broadbucker effect, or add parallel or out of phase options...etc,etc,etc...then it gets more involved.
So, the sky's the limit, or you can keep it simple. What was your intention in replacing the single coils with the humbuckers?
Others will be by shortly to thicken the plot, so feel free to ask questions, or for clarification accordingly.
Happy Trails

thanks for the welcome guys.
cynical one, my intention in replacing the singles with hums is purely to improve and fatten the sound and to kill the hum when distorted.
thanks for your imput, i only want the most basic of things, so it sounds easy enough.
thanks again chris

As Cyn points out above, without the need to split the coils of the HBs, you can just treat them as you would 2-wire SCs, and you can wire them to the 5-way switch exactly like your SCs are presently wired.
Feel free to ask any questions that arise as you do this project!
