Hey, I was wondering if someone could tell me how I could make the "bridge on" switch (series) on the strat lover's strat into just a toggle instead of a push pull (do I just need a DPDT toggle?) And, if anyone had one already, or was bored out there ;D, could you make me a rough copy of a diagram for the entire Strat Lover's Strat mod ? I think its one of the best wiring setups out there now. here's a link to the schem I'm *mildly* new to this so any help would be GrEaTlY appreciated ! PS.. I just ordered some pickups from pete biltoft (www.vintagevibeguitars.com) so I want to have a good idea of wiring before they get here.. Thanks again !! -matt

Here's the diagram: The diagram shows a DPDT but you can use a SPST (on-off) as well. Rather than making it neck-on, make it bridge-on by moving the red wire to the N position to the B position on the switch.

Thanks !! but I meant a diagram of the entire mod (i fixed it in the original post, that was my fault)
I have done the mod you posted a link to on my current strat, with a neck on, but is it in series, or just parallel ? The strat lover's strat has it in series, which is the whole idea behind half of the mod.
Thanks again ! I just want to make sure when I start this I can get it all the way done without a hitch.

I thinks it's parallel. If it was series I would think it would thin the sound out some when on with the neck pickup.

mattcOn my website, I have my own wiring diagram that does even more than the Strat Lover's wiring. It will change the appearance of your guitar. (Basically, the 5 way switch gets removed and 2 DPDT switches and 3 SPST switches are installed in the exact same spot where the 5 way switch was). The switches are easy to find and the ease of use and versatility is incredible. (In my humble opinion of course). ;D Here's the link: www.1728.com/guitar2.htm

Thanks guys ! Wolf - while doing searches on google.com your site came up a bunch, and it's very well done. However, with your setup, you have the phase switch on the bridge ( i believe ) I think that I would prefer it to be on the neck, so I can have the neck and middle out of phase (as well as neck and bridge out of phase) too. If you can whip up a diagram of that, then I think I'd give it a try Also --- Do you have a diagram of your super strat mod attatched to the tone / volume pots ? (something like this i think is what i want..) ..i'd still prefer a 5 way toggle in there.. but i'm very open to suggestions Thanks again guys ! -matt

mattc I think I can draw something for you that shows the neck pickup with the phase switch and the whole thing attached to a volume and tone control. (I think it would be a lot easier just to use 1 master tone control).
As far as your still wanting the 5 way switch? I think if you do this modification, you'll miss the 5 way switch for about 3 maybe four seconds.
Give me a ittle time because I work a full-time job and unfortunately websites and guitar playing are hobbies of mine.
I'm glad you like my website by the way. Thanks.

allmostawake I'm glad you posted your message on the boards which "reminded" me to check my private messages. Anyway, look at my recently posted diagram and you'll see where the + and the ground connections go. You could use my diagram if you have neck & middle single coils and a bridge humbucker. As you said, you'd like to replace the phase switch with a coil cut switch. (All you would need for this switch is an SPST). Depending on which humbucker coil remains acive, the humbucking effect will occur with with the middle & bridge coils OR the bridge & neck coils.

CheshireThat diagram is a redrawing of the one found at www.1728.com/guitar2.htmAll I did was to put the phase switch on the neck pickup instead of the bridge pickup and I drew in a volume and tone control. Other than that, the directions at www.1728.com/guitar2.htmapply exactly to the diagram on this page as well as to the page on my website.

allmostawakeTo wire a 4 conductor humbucker for series and coil cut, go here www.1728.com/guitar.htm and scroll about halfway down to look at the humbucker modifications. The negative from the humbucker and the ground connection from the coil cut switch will go to terminal #5 and the + humbucker output goes to terminal #6.

okay, i hooked everything up today.. and pretty much nothing works.. it works if all the switches are "on" and it quasi works if SOME of the pickup selectors are only "on".. but once i begin to flip switches, i get a lot of nothing.. It might just be a miswire somewhere.. but I dont hear anything different with the phase switch, and when i start flipping the pickup toggles, i get nothing.. it took a while to get rid of some grounding issues, but when i got that cleared up, i was still left with a lot of black spots.. Any help on maybe common issues, or anything would be great. Anyway, thanks especially to Wolf for all your help ! -matt

mattcFirst of all, go to the page where that circuit diagram is located www.1728.com/guitar2.htm and read the instructions. To save you the trouble here are the most impostant instructions: ******************************************* A few of the possible switch positions will produce no sounds at all. Some people do not like even the slightest possibility of a guitar going "dead" - especially on stage. Becoming familiar with the switching should completely eliminate this from occurring. While the switch is set for "parallel" the "dead" switchings are: choosing any single coil and choosing Neck & Bridge. This really isn't that bad because all 3 single coils can be chosen when the switch is set for "Series" and Neck & Bridge in parallel isn't humbucking. ******************************************* Basically, when the switch is set for parallel, the only combinations that will work are Neck & Middle AND Midddle & Bridge. You also mentioned that you were thinking of putting a humbucker in the bridge position. Did you do this? If so, are you sure of the wiring?

I did not use the humbucker, right now it is SSS. when the series switch is set to series it should work all as normal correct ? ((the toggles working as on/off switches for each pickup)) -matt

mattc Yes, with the switch set for series you should get all 7 possible pickup combinations (8 if you want to counf "off"). If, you cannot get the 7 combinations then something is wrong with the wiring.

Okay, i opened it up, and i had a ground going somewhere that shouldn't have been grounded, and it works now without a hitch.. it took FOR-E-VER to get everything right.. but i'm glad i didn't rush it.. I thank you so much Wolf for all of your help !! I will try to get some soundclips up eventually of these pickups and wirings.. they're AWESOME by the way, custom made by Pete Biltoft of www.vintagevibeguitars.com Thanks again you guys !! -matt

mattc I'm glad that you were successful. I think you'll enjoy all the new sounds that the crappy 5 way stock Strat switch could never deliver.
