Electro-Harmonix The Worm Ok, that guy needs a shot of smack and a nap, but its a pretty cool pedal. I got one for about $60 on ebay. Sounds best on the wah and phaser setting. But I have tremolo and vibe on other devices that sound same or better than this worm. So, what I'd like to do is trade that 4way rotary for a 2 throw stomp switch and switch between Wah and Phase only. Also, I want to put that auto/manual switch on a stomp switch. Thats easy, its just a 1p2t. There is plenty of room inside this huge box. I think it should be pretty easy to take out the switch and experiment to find which lugs do what. Looks like a 2p4t? This would be my first work on a circuit board. Does it seem fairly easily doable? Any gotchas to think about? I'm not going to put the stomp where the 4way is, just leave that spot blank and put the stomp out in that empty space.

JFP-
Somehow I missed this when you first posted, and so far, no replies from anyone else, either.
Hard to tell from that side of the switch, but I'd bet it's actually a 3P4T, and maybe more. Often these rotaries have more than one pole per deck, and 3 pole ones are fairly common.
But I think what you are proposing sounds do-able. Some care will be needed to get the switch out without pulling any of the traces up off the board.
I wonder if you might not be better off to leave the switch as is, and bypass the connections to it to go to your new stomp switch. This assumes that there is indeed room enough to mount the switch elsewhere in the box.

as far as room in the box, approximately half this box is empty. This is the first gen of the pedal, after this, they started putting them in a more standard single size stompbox. you can barely see the circle outline of the switch thru the board. I'm thinking the points in the circle are the switch lugs, prolly the center ones are the poles and the outer 8 are the throws.

Yeah, makes sense, I missed that detail in the photo.

just back from the garage... IT"S ALIVE!!! jerry rigged it up with some extra switches till my stomps come in the mail. Since I'll have extra poles, I think I'll rig up some LEDs to indicate wah or phase and auto or manual. cool. These: www.pedalpartsplus.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=PPP&Product_Code=5504&Category_Code=LO3are the only LEDs I have in my favorites from the last time i shopped for them. Any one have a line on other LEDS? The voltage in this pedal is 24v, I'm not sure if that makes much difference, the LED linked above doesnt say.

again not an EE and barely qualified (through my own garage hacking at pedals) to comment on such questions, i'd imagine as long as you calculate the proper value of resistor for the led (which i'm sure others can help with), you should be fine

Got this working. Main stomp sw in the bottom middle is still (true bypass) FX on/off new stomp on left is Wah/Phaser select top stomp is Auto/Hold New lights indicate Wah/Phaser and the Rate light now glows solid if the Hold is on. (originally pulsed with the Rate regardless of Auto/Hold) So, I've now got all the switching foot activated and I can turn the Rate and Range pots with my toe as well. Bitchin'! Maybe someday I'll come up with a new faceplate to cover up the holes and stuff.
