I am replacing the wiring on an archtop (bought it w/ no electronics), and I'm not sure how to go about grounding it, since the bridge has a wooden base. It's got a trapeze tailpiece - would drilling a tiny hole in the bottom and running a wire out and attaching it to the base of the tailpiece accomplish the same thing as grounding to the bridge, or is there some other solution?

Sounds like grounding the tailpiece is a good way to go. If you look carefully, there may already be a small hole to route the ground wire (assuming this is how the strings were grounded before).
Good luck.
