I notice that compound combos are getting a lot of press. If you had your choice between N+M+B or (N>B)+M, which would you choose and why?

Just to be clear: '+' = parallel, and '^' or '>' = series? I dont know about the sounds, but one of my favorite facts is that (N^B) + M is hum cancelling, provided the M is RWRP compared to the N and B. How can three pickups be hum cancelling? I have a piece trying to explain it on my site au.geocities.com/guitarcircuits, if you look there, its in the section called 'Cancell that hum'. With correct phasing, this effect also happens on an HH guitar, if one pickup is cut to a single coil and the other is out-of-phase with itself (ie total of 3 coils active). The latest HH design on the Tonemonster thread will do this.

The latest HH design on the Tonemonster thread will do this. Interesting. I also get to check out your website. Cool. So, in addition to those, what do you guys think about N>M>B compared to (N>B)+M? One of my favorite sounds with dissimilar pups is N+(phase reversed B)- Depending on the pup, creates a strong, harsh sound that really cuts through the mix- One of those sounds that you wonder what good it could be by itself, but as soon as you drop in the rest of the band, it overcomes masking that other combinations can't avoid.
All of this to say, I've got a project underway that will allow me to add a >M to this and all of the other NB combinations- I won't get started for another couple of weeks, but will report in sometime this fall if you are interested-
Cheers

I look forward to seeing the results of that project.
