Correctly applying contact cleaner ???

Hello,
I have some scratchy pots and plan on using some spray contact cleaner on them. I read one thread here that said to just spray the outside of the pot and it will penetrate the pot. Is this correct? Should I use the small plastic tube that comes with it and try to inject the pot as well as can be expected using this tube?

I've always used the tube approach. Be sure the cleaner also contains a lubricate though, otherwise the pots will fail prematurely.
