I got this amp on Craigslist for $100 and it came with a Hellatone 60. I bought it without hearing it, mistake number 1. It has a good bluesy tone, but it sounds like a blanket is soaking up all the highs. I want that ice pick bright, shimmery thing that i can roll off. I want a funky clean twangy thing. Any recommendations on a speaker replacement?
Also someone has modded it by making it a 3/4 closed combo instead of a closed back. How much does the closed vs 3/4 closed effect the tone? Should I close it back up?
Thanks again for all advice.

I've always been impressed with the Eminence Patriot series, but YMMV.

I have a celestion G12 Vintage in mine, an improvement over the stock speaker. (im considering putting it in my Tiny terror combo, but im not sure if it will sound better)
As a side note, i did find the AD30vtalways seemed to lack a little on highs (especially on the UK70's model)

I tried a celestion g12T and it did not help...
Thanks for the suggestions.
Not sure if this amp will be staying with me.

A Hellatone 60 is a broken-in Cellestion Vintage 30, which is my favorite speaker, normally noted for bright upper midrange clarity. I think maybe you don't like the amp, and I'd say the speaker alone is worth more than you paid.
