I play a Fender Strat with extremely heavy gauge strings (12-56?) through an Eden Nemesis 4x10 Bass combo. I've done this for years, and finally my old Squire Strat took a dump, and I bought a new Strat. This time, it is a Mexican made Fender "Fat" Strat, with the humbucker. My sound has lost this "tone" punch it had before with the humbucker-less Squire. Is it the humbucker? Something else? - any ideas? Anyone have an ideas about how to get a bass sound, yet retain the brightness and growl of a guitar? (besides getting a separate bass player and separate guitarist!!!).

You were pulling one of Stevie Ray's old tricks without knowing it, it seems. Are you still using heavy strings, and are the tones acceptable in M, M+N, and N switching positions? If this is the case you might want to coil-cut the humbucker.
