I've got a few ideas on how to add sustain to a guitar electronicially.
1. if you replaced the poles in a PU for steel bars, put the PU really close to the strings, and cranked an amplified signal of the guitar, wouldn't the PU now act as an electro-magnet pushing and pulling the strings? obviously you would use a different pickup to pickup the string vibration. 2. add somthing simalar to a speaker(or a speaker with a heavy cone) to the body cavity , but instead of projecting soundwaves it produces heavy vibrations wich in turn vibrate the wood from an amplified signal.
another cool idea i have is if number one actually works you could put the sustainer PU 'out of phase' with the pickup recieveing the sound, theoredically producing 'anti'-sustain, shortening your notes ringing.
anyway, does anyone have any idea if these have been done before (other then puting a speaker in a guitar, i've seen those before) or if they would/wouldn't work. any comment is greatly appreciated.
thanks, ajent_
