...hmmm ..kinda see sg's points with all this.. ...on the face of it, I'll certainly support whatever efforts we all have to make to keep this wonderful thing together in readable form. I'm also certainly prepared to contribute some $$ on a regular basis.. I feel that this is preferable to buying a raffle ticket for some of Newey's old vinyls .. ...I think I can guess the ones he'll want to get rid of..

All's quiet on the changeover front for the present, as the staff mulls things over through the long hot summer . . .
Meanwhile, since this new software is supposed to be so all-fired "customizable", I think maybe we should try to improve our environment ourselves, in the meantime. I've noticed a few things about the software that I dislike, but there may be some code, either already out there or which someone might write, to solve some of these things. I'm no programmer, so I don't really know what's possible or not. I'm just throwing this out there for discussion.
And, I'm sure there are features that others have wished for as well, so everyone should chime in on this.
In the short run, here's some of the things I wish we could fix with the new software.
1) I miss my "Board clock". We used to have the "Board time" displayed at the top of the page, it helped to remind me to refresh the screen when I had been away for a while.
2)We used to be able to log in either at the top or the bottom of the page, there were two separate buttons to access the login screen. Now there's only the one at the top. If I forget that I've logged off and scroll down the page, I have to scroll back up to log in.
3) Same thing with accessing later pages in multi-page threads. Used to be, you could go forwards/backwards through the pages at either the top or bottom of the page, now it's only at the top.
Could these features be added back in?

Definately agree with 2 and 3.
At the moment its like Helter Skelter: "When I get to the bottom I go back to the top......" etc
Also, being able to do a reply straight off the 'Recent posts' list. At the moment one can only do this by making a quote.

3) It's already there. The bar with page numbers and search box remains at the top of the page as you scroll down.

Gang, +1 for digging through the trash! (Of course, now it's just a mental +1) I can restore the Karma function. I haven't said anything yet, but it now appears that a certain level of malaise has set in, and we're not moving forward with very much vim & vigor in moving to a new hosting provider/new software package. That said, there are "plug-ins" available for the taking that can partially return us to yesteryear. If you want me to install the Karma plug-in, reply below to that effect... or in the negative, if that's your inclination. "Meh, who cares" postings will be taken as a Yes vote. One thing.... the description does not state if the Karma points are read from ProBoard's master database or from a local file. In the case of the former, I have no idea if PB erased all those numbers, or if they are intact and V5 just doesn't read/display them. But in either case, you may need to "remind" me what your Karma state was so I can restore it - should the majority vote for installing this plug-in. Other plug-ins crop up from time to time, I'll keep an eye out for ones that may interest us. sumgai
