While looking to see what's new at Wilde, I stumbled on this:
"With great sadness in our hearts, the man we know as Bill Lawrence in the music industry passed away on November 2, 2013 at approximately 9:20AM."

Shuffled off this mortal coil, huh.
Seriously. I got the impression from this forum that Bill Lawrence was "one of the greats that continued to be great." It was always a little heart-warming to read stories about individual folks both here and elsewhere getting in touch with him and having a great experience regarding finding what they wanted and then buying it from him. I find myself being very blasé about famous old people dying these days, but it does hit home that one man's place in the guitar world as "the dude with the uniquely-involved and continually-exercised passion for pickups" has died. I hope someone makes crass puns at my death as well.
The pickup world will be pretty wound up about this.

...hmmm
...although some reactions could be poles apart..
Even more seriously, it hits home even more when one starts to lose long-time personal friends in music... I lost 3 this year, and that hurts...

The person who built the pup for one of my guitar idols (Darrell Abbott of Pantera). I guess now Bill Lawrence might make one new pup or two when he meets Darrell up there in heaven (provided Darrell didn't end up in hell, anyway). RIP Bill.
