Hot Rodding A Mexican Strat

Hello, I have a few questions I am trying to get answered. Here is my deal I want to put new electronics in my Mexican Strat. I really would like to get that P-90 sound, with a real simple wiring set up. A 3-way switch (neck, bridge and combined) with master volume and master tone. I am not really sure if there is any other options that would improve the sound even more? Any suggestions would definitely be considered. I found a pick guard already cut for the soap-bars, if you have any opinions on this radical transformation I would sure like to here about them. Thanks for any help you can give in advance

I don't know about the MIM routs at the bridge and neck being long enough for p90s. They are typically set up for -Hums or singles, but soapbars are longer. Soapbars typically mount with 2 screws through the body of the pup, but not allways. If they do you do not have much meat from the bottom of the pup rout, to the sping cavity, unless you MIM is a hardtail, which is unlikely.

You would need a p90 with base tabs, like a standard humbucker. And you might have to chisle or rout out addional wood at the ends of the -hum routs. Note also there is only about a half inch from top edge of the neck singlecoil and the top edge of the pickgaurd. so you have little play there, unless you get a custom pickgaurd lazered.

Wiring? 2 single coil pups don't have a lot of options, but I would suggest ensuring you choiced have one that is RWRP, then you get hum canelling when together.

Then it gets down to a switch for series or parallel. If you go with a out of phase switch I think you will then reintroduce hum in the combo, but there real electronic guys here that can confirm that.

So there are not really a lot of options. You might consider a 3rd p90, then the options become expansive and intriging, although you would have to abandon the 3-way and go with something like three on-off mini's.

This all presumes you can conquer the luthier issues.
