i have a cap in my hand its a green thingy with 1h473e anyone know what it is ?? Is this thingy a disc, or kind of a shiny green "Chiclet-looking" thingy? As long as it's not a kind of "canister" or cylindrical shape, maybe with a little step or rim on the end where the leads come out, it's probably okay. (More on that later.) The "1h" part I haven't quite puzzled out, but the "473" would mean 47,000. Most likely 47,000 picofarads, which is the same as 0.047 microfarads, or µF. I think the "e" indicates ±0.5% tolerance, which is a Good Thing™. I got this info from xtronics.com/kits/ccode.htm, for anyone else who likes stuff like that. I don't think it's an eletrolytic, which was my first thought when you said "bug zapper." If you see him stick something in an electrical outlet and then toss it in your direction while he says. "Here, catch!" . . . well, you should probably just let it hit the floor. ;D Oh, yeah: electrolytics are not recommended for use in guitars. (See previous threads for what is good for geetar projects.) All other things being equal, a .047µF cap would be good if you're looking for a "darker" tone. -- Doug C. "Don't eat any green or orange Chiclets with numbers on them, especially any with wires sticking out of them."

If that wire seems to head back toward the guitar's bridge, it might very well be "string ground." And your cap sounds like one of the film types. Pretty good stuff.
