www.seymourduncan.com/pickup/antiquity-humbucker-setThis is another of Seymour Duncan's super authentic PAF replicas, with nickel silver everything, nice long legs, braided hookup wire, maple spacer, no wax for an all around shiny, immaculate appearance inside and out. As you can see, one of the two is double cream and the other is zebra. I received the same combo with with Seth Lover set. The simulated aging even extends into the pick, where you would never see without removing the cover, which is a nice touch in contrast to DiMarzio, who offer aged covers but stop there. This set looks a lot like the Seth Lover set. The Antiquity set has simulated aging where as the Seth Lover set looks brand new. The Seths have polished AlNiCo 2 while the Antiquities have rough cast AlNiCo 2. The technical differences between the Seth Lover set and the Antiquity sets is not straight forward. The Antiquities have higher DC resistances, higher inductances, and higher "unloaded" peaks, but nearly identical loaded resonant peaks compared to the Seth Lover set I have on hand. All of this suggests that the Antiquities are generally a tad hotter, with a lower capacitance. The Antiquities also have a higher Q factor, though the peaks are less than 1 dB higher than the Seths, it suggests the Antiquity's rough cast AlNiCo has a lower conductivity that the Seth Lover's polished bars. Speaking of AlNiCo, the flux density does appear to be lower for the Antiquities, which generally measured between 190 and 240 Gauss, where as the Seth Lovers measure between 270 and 310 Gauss at the tops of the screws and pole pieces. I'm surprised to see that much of a difference between the roughcast and polished AlNiCo 2 bars. The lower flux density combined with the difference in resonant damping almost suggests that they are different alloys all together. I haven't put this set into a guitar yet, so I can't speak to the subjective experience yet, but the technical specs suggests they would sound similar to Seth Lovers that have been lowered by a few millimeters.
