More accurately, Rickenbacker guitars were on Jeopardy! last Friday. The contestants avoided the category until the very end of the round. Turns out, the answers posed were rather easy to question. For $200 Rickenbacker began a music revolution with this prototype of the first truly electric guitar, the Frying Pan. It was made of solid wood so it could be loudly amplified, without producing this screeching . . . also known as the Larsen Effect. For $400 Rickenbacker changed the sound of the 1960s when it gave the second ever Model 360 12-string to George Harrison who used it for the opening chord of the theme song of this 1964 movie. For $600 Heartbreaker Mike Campbell uses a Model 620 12-string for that ringing ton fans love as he backs up this fellow Floridian. For $800 A Model 1998 was the victim when this musician who later got his own limited edition model, did his first on-stage guitar smashing in London in 1964.

For $1000 Rickenbacker bass guitars have provided the thunder for generations of rock bands. The bass here was played by John Paul Jones on this band's first US tour in 1969.

Surprised they waited on the category since, as it turned out, they got all the questions correct. The category could have been a lot harder- no Susanna Hoffs question?

No Susanna and no Roger McGuinn. And although McGuinn with his Ric and tiny blue sunglasses was an iconic early rock/pop image, I think we can both agree we'd much rather see Ms Hoffs.
But hey, they only have room for five questions. Not sure what you'd delete to make room for Susanna. Surely not that George Harrison chord.

The question still could have been a lot harder. It could have been "Richard Lester film" instead of "1965 film", which was a dead giveaway since there were only 2 Beatle films (not counting the Let It Be concert film)
But great to see Rics getting some love.

Yeah, that would have made it slightly harder. But hearing that chord was the giveaway for anyone who is moderately familiar with The Beatles.
Fun Fact: These contests are filmed far in advance of their air dates. The Heartbreaker answer was seen posthumously by us but was posed pre-posthumously. Or something like that.

I've got to an age where I think "that chord" does more for me than Ms. Hoffs. This was not of my choosing, rather foisted upon me. Hmmm...

You all may have to pardon me, but when I read the title of this thread I was about to do an almost-happy-dance, then I remembered Rickenbacker made those wonderful basses. So sorry, but Ricky's guitars do absolutely nothing for me. Now, when it gets posted that Danelectro is going under, you might see me nabbing a set of their pedals on clearance, but otherwise I'm breaking out the fireworks.
