Me and some fellows that I play music with have rented a Place to have a show... sounds like fun hun? So im playing tomorow to (hopefully a big crowd) beeing the last day of school and all. Im posting this to see how many nuts are actually playing music to entertain others (not that theres anything wrong with playing for yourself). And if anybody on this forum is making a living through guitar. (repair, sales, musicians and other i guess)
keep playing

So, how did the gig go? It's been a long time since I played outside my home, other than in the Adult Ed classes I took earlier this year. I'd kinda like to be able to get paid for gigging, but that requires more practice than I've been putting in lately. Every so often on a Friday night, a small band with my instructor in it appears at a bar/restaurant down the road from my house. There's no stage, they just clear a spot for the guys to set up. It's kinda "loose," with Pat (my instructor) roaming around as far as the cable to his amp will let him. (He didn't have to dodge a microphone stand.) At the same time, those guys have got it together. They can talk to somebody during a song, and never miss a note. I don't know if I'll ever be able to do that, but it looks like a helluva lot of fun. Maybe I could be their roadie. (Last night, I did help lug some gear out to the parking lot after they knocked off for the night.) If I'd tossed my gear bag in the car before I left for the bar, I could've loaned Pat a capo for one song. I think he half expected I might have one stashed in my car.

...I don't know if I'll ever be able to do that, but it looks like a helluva lot of fun. ... you never know til you try. BTW: entertaining is 90% attitude, 10% talent. keep things simple and have some fun with it. nobody expects an unknown in a local pub to be EC or John Mayer. they just wanna have fun too. so hook up with some folks that have done it before and get with the program.
