This tonifier possesses a diode configuration that, by itself, on a switch, exceeds StewMac’s Black Ice, or Guitar Madness’ Underdrive; as well as, any other diode configuration as a passive Overdrive. The configuration has been tinkered with for some time. Friends and colleagues select this particular configuration over Black Ice 8 times out of 10 times, by its self on a switch, without any capacitors or resistors, just as a passive Overdrive. It does not kill volume. It clips and clamps. Again, I can boldly say the diode sequence exceeds all other passive diode Overdrive configurations. I know because I’ve played with them all. It can be used on a pot or switch. The symmetric pattern in any order is: 516k IN270 BAT48 BAT46 IN60P IN60P 4V7 4V7 One application I use for this configuration sits on a Push-Pull wired to serve as a Volume down/Tone Up, in conjunction with an RC Circuit. I call is a Blues Pot given it has enough swagger and wavering smoky timbre perfect for a Down Dirty Delta Blues session. But I live in North Carolina where the Blues lived in the Great Dismal Swamp; hence, I call it my Great Dismal Blues Pot. The RC that sits in companion with the diodes tames the Overdrive into a nice bluesy tone. For those who use pedals, and I do, to achieve a Blues sound, good for you, but sometimes you don’t have your pedals. This stealthy little unit is just your volume pot with a surprise under its hood. I’ll put up sound clips when I find my Guitar Rig.
