If these pickups are installed with the standard Strat switching, positions 2 and 4 give you 2 humbuckers in parallel. With this setup, positions 2 and 4 give you a single coil of one pickup in parallel with a single coil of the other pickup for a sound more like a traditional Strat in-between sound. A north coil of one pickup is combined with a south coil from the other pickup to maintain the hum cancelling properties of the pickups. In this version, Positions 2 & 4 also have no tone pot in the circuit. 5-Way Switching: 1. Bridge Humbucker 2. Bridge South Coil & Middle North Coil in Parallel - No Tone Control 3. Middle Humbucker 4. Neck North Coil & Middle South Coil in Parallel - No Tone Control 5. Neck Humbucker HSH with S-1 for Strat or Modern PRS Switchingposted Nov 17, 2011, 9:09 AM by Steve Tucker [updated Nov 17, 2011, 9:12 AM]I really like this concept. In the Strat mode, it switches like a typical single coil Strat. In the PRS mode, it switches like the modern 2 humbucker, 5-way lever PRS guitars. Position 4 in PRS mode also gives you something like the Tele middle position. That's a lot of versatility. 5-Way Switching: S-1 Up (Strat Mode): 1. Bridge Inside Coil 2. Middle & Bridge Inside Coil 3. Middle 4. Middle & Neck Outside Coil 5. Neck Outside Coil S-1 Down (PRS Mode): 1. Bridge Humbucker 2. Bridge Humbucker & Neck Outside Coil 3. Neck & Bridge Humbuckers 4. Neck Outside Coil & Bridge Inside Coil 5. Neck Humbucker Modifying the Peavey Limited EXPposted Nov 5, 2011, 1:16 PM by Steve Tucker [updated Nov 5, 2011, 1:17 PM]This guitar is a great platform for modifying. It comes with 2 humbuckers, a 3-way lever switch, a master volume & a master tone. The control cavity is a rear route that has lots of space. I drilled a 3rd hole for a rotary switch, replaced the volume pot with a push-pull pot, replaced the tone with my modified TBX tone control, and put a 5-way Super Switch in it. The rotary switch is 4-Pole, 6-Position switch that selects which pickup coils are active. 3-Way Strat with Toggle Switch for Middle Pickupposted Nov 5, 2011, 12:58 PM by Steve Tucker [updated Nov 5, 2011, 1:01 PM]For people who don't use the "in-between" positions that much and want a simple 3-way pickup selector switch on their Strat.
