Hey Guys, I went looking for John’s Buffer Circuit that uses the J201 and it’s gone. I was getting ready to put a buffer in a guitar over the weekend; so, any help with regard to that diagram would be helpful. Thanks.

Hey frets Here's a link to the thread but the images won't display in the thread because the image host he's using doesn't support SSL. guitarnuts2.proboards.com/thread/3150/jfet-buffer-cableYou can see any of the images by copying the URLs and pasting them into your browser in a new tab or window. Here's the first schematic which will probably be all you need.

Thanks John and Retread, This is a big help. It’s the first buffer I’ve ever put in. It looks pretty straight forward.

Just one thing to point out for setting these up to work their best:
It's ideal if the steady-state voltage at the source (jfet connection at lower right) is at or just above half the supply voltage. Jfets can be a bit variable even in one type, but this circuit is in principle, very tolerant of variations and different jfets types. All you need to do is to measure that voltage and if it's above about 5.5v, bring it down by increasing the resistor from gate (left on the jfet) up to + supply.

John, this was extreme timely as I was about to test it. I used the schematic Retread posted that utilizes the J201. I will definitely measure the circuit as you recommended. I’m really looking forward to this buffer as I have two volumes (Strat) and an onboard active distortion board I made. Thanks John😷

I have special places, where I put things, and then can never find them.
But in my defense, I live in a haunted house. Truly. She takes my stuff all the time and it shows back up in the weirdest places. It happens constantly. Last week she took my solder sucker. It appeared two days later in the bathroom sink. This is true, I’m not kidding. Her name is Elva and she’s the original owner of the house. She also throws things at me like washers and little pieces of Metal that I have no idea where she gets them. I did some soldering in my dining room because the garage shop was too cold - I got pelted everyday with screws, nuts, washers, etc. She is responsible for messing with my special place.

I get the same thing happening here too! We have two cats.
Is the buffer going yet?
