Hello!
If a typical HB pickup is wired in series, in-phase and is already hum-cancelling, what will be the effect when a Single Coil type pickup is combined (say in parallel or in series)? What will happen to the hum?
I'd like to know how can we check the wiring of an H-S pickup combination to ensure that:
1. They are in-phase
2. They are hum-cancelling
Thank you!

A combo of a full humbucker and a simple single coil will hum, but it should be a bit less prominent than for the single alone.
To more fully cancel the hum, you can coil cut the humbucker to use the coil that will oppose hum from the single, or use a noiseless single (effectively its a form of humbucker), or devise some dummy-coil arrangement.
Hum cancelling is rarely perfect unless its based on two very well balanced coils.

It shows some examples with 3-coil setup.
