This thread's title is in reference to the first post of my second hitch as a GuitarNut, which can be found here: You Rang?Sadly, after 14 years, it's now time to unring that bell, 'cause I've got to toodle on down the road. It's not my usual style to simply steal away into the night, so I'm "logging out" with full notice to all and sundry. And I'm not really kicking the bucket, I intend to check in from time to time, just to make sure that the place hasn't been burnt to the ground. I'll be having a more meaningful discussion with the rest of the staff, and if they so choose, they might post more details about the why's and wherefore's and so on. In the meantime, carry on, and don't forget to bring your towel! sumgai Former Chief Cook and Bottle Washer

The old post sumgai linked to above goes back to his first year-long hiatus, which is when sumgai made me administrator in his stead. Both before that departure and after his return, he has been a mentor to me. I have learned a lot from sumgai over the years and will miss him, as I'm sure many others will as well. Please do pop back in from time to time. As Tom Bodett says, "We'll leave the light on for ya!" EDIT: That'll teach me to not assume, and click on the link before posting. The link goes back even further, to before my days here. Later, in 2008, sumgai took a second hiatus, which is when he made me admin. That link is here: guitarnuts2.proboards.com/thread/3507/unklmickey

Dear Sumgai,
You always are so helpful, thorough, supportive and patient. You always answer back with a bit of humor and are a true gentleman. I wish you all the best. And I do hope you come back to visit. You will be so missed !!! 🥰

I just posted to another thread from reTrEaD where I expecting his 'goodbyes' only to be pleasantly surprised that he was merely wishing everyone a happy New Year. And then I see this thread. Well, I am sad to see you go, sumgai, but it is understandable. There is a site which I operate which will be winding down soon. Nothing is forever.
Good luck to you.

Sumgai, thank you so much for helping me, and so many other nuts here on this awesome forum. I'll miss your sense of humor, vast knowledge, and practicality. Onwards and upwards! Looking forward to when you pop back in to check on us.
Best wishes, -Dave

You, sumgai, are one of the superb pillars of this GuitarNuts2 house structure. I definitely and sincerely appreciate all of your generous helpful words you’ve provided me. The roof isn’t wobbling yet, but a supportive pillar is obviously missed. 🥺 This colosseum won’t look or feel the same, but God bless your new journey! And please do return sometimes. Your presence will definitely motivate and cheer the GuitarNuts2 colosseum! 😁

I'm rather new here and only come from time to time, but that was enough to know how kind and helpfull you are. I'll miss you too and wish you the best.
And above all, THANK YOU for sharing your knowledge with me.

I too, had missed this thread...along with all that was happening around my head at the time...
sumgai was always the poster I could rely upon to 'come back' with an appropriate comment to my often ravings, and was he who gave me my Derailer title, for which I will be forever proud !
May his pseudo retirement suit his mood and may he still quietly (?) also take us to task when he sees us momentarily stray from the established path and dissolve into uncontrolled lunacy.
I will forever be grateful for his learned musings, and his support both on and off the Nuts Field...
Go well, my Friend....one day we might still get to meet in some part of this Peculiar World.
Always in my thoughts...

I am another, who had missed this 'announcement'... Many thanks for all your major contributions, concierge-ing and general mentoring, Master sumgai. I, for one, would not have the knowledge I do now, but for your constant assistance and patience. Keep on keeping on...

My sincere thanks for the notes of gratitude, all of you. But I do have to admit that I'm sad that no one commented on my towel reference, I thought for sure that sumone would pick up on it.
10 months... long time. So, your questions;
Am I back? No, even if you see that my fingers are indeed scrabbling furiously at the keyboard, before they go all spastic or sumpin'.
Am I playing (again)? Nope.
Have I sold my gear? Nope. Although my 1974 FTR is now up for grabs. I've had the thing since 1998 or '99, can't remember exactly now.
Do I wanna sell my FRU (Fender Reverb Unit)? Perhaps. But it's a re-issue, not an original era. Perhaps in the near future, who knows.
What the ____ is wrong with me? What the docs are saying is that I've got Lewy Body Protein Dementia. (Sometimes without the word Protein in there.) Look it up, please.
Am I gonna croak? Soon? Nope. As often as not, this disease is compared to Alzheimer's, but it progresses much more slowly. Best guess is 15 or more years, but as usual, my mileage will vary.
I'll entertain other questions, if you'll consent to waiting until I next check in.
To Be Continued......

OK, the towel reference lost me, unless it's a reference to your title as "chief botttle washer" But good to hear from you again!

Great to hear from you Mr S!
I don't think there's any long-term solution to free image hosting. They all fade away or start to charge eventually.

Great to hear from you Mr S! I don't think there's any long-term solution to free image hosting. They all fade away or start to charge eventually. I've got 10 years on my own (commercial) site, so I just might move everything over there. Free to me, anyways.

That's what I do too. Its nice to have control. And if I ever change ISP, the domain and so all the addresses can stay the same. when i moved over, i focussed mainly on the posts of mine that get looked at, such as schematics and references.
If you have a folder of all your images, you could mirror them to your own webspace, edit your key posts and let us know. Then if a post of yours gets referred to in a thread and youre away, we could edit in the new link ad-hoc

John,
Ideas are in play, trust me. But somehow I lost my FTP account, so I need to deal with my provider later this morning, and get back in good operating order.
The bit about others can update a link when I'm "out of the office" is a good one, I'll make the arrangements for that as ASAP as possible.

For my stuff, i just made a separate folder in my public area where our main website is, so Im not using ftp.
What i did have to do though was to pony-up for an SSL certificate, which is needed for Proboards to accept the images and for https security. But for your business website, maybe you already have this? If not, and if you are cleverer and have more patience than me, I understand that you can get these for free.

Hi Sumgai, I am genuinely saddened to read this. I don't know what else to write. I suppose there is nothing else. Except, maybe, 'happy trails' and I hope you drop by from time to time to say hello and that the diseases progresses as slowly as possible for you to give you some more good years to spend with your loved ones. Take care, Col.
