I've done this on several guitars as I've found the Artec tone EQ good and simple (no need to modify a Strat pickguard). You can get by using 1 or the other (EXP or BCU) but with both (esp the BCU) you can get some "gain" into the mix which is nice. Sorry I'm showing the Artec schematic, but it was good enough to follow, so I really had no need to make my own up to this point. Like with the Guitarfetish circuit, the range of tone is wide.

Ssstonelover,
I’ve put several of these in guitars and always recommend the BCU over the EXP.

Thanks Frets,
If I only had to go with one, the BCU makes perfect sense as you mention. Since Strats, of which I have several clones, have space for 2 tone pots, and since the normal passive one does not offer much except roll off mud... the EXP works fine there -- and makes me think of David Gilmour and his dual EMG tone controls, LOL. Actually it's kind of fun to have both because you can do the BCU gain (which tends to be lower in the frequency spectrum and season it with the EXP to keep any amount of highs you like to keep.
