hi all! I'm almost ready to start my 4th coat of paint... but, I was wondering if: a.) do you know what type of 3-way switch this is:
b.) is it possible to safely remove the black top (circled in white)? I was thinking it would be good to remove the switch so the floor underneath it could be painted. However, it is possible to just remove the two screws and tilt it; that makes painting the wall around it easier. thank you for reading! - unreg p.s. By "safely", I mean how to remove that black top so that it can be reattached; is that even possible?

Unreg, that’s a standard 8 lug 3 - Way Import Switch. That tip should pull right off and then you can unscrew the switch and do what you desire. If you use the right Phillips head screw driver and go slow, I don’t see you damaging that paint.

Thank you frets! Can the tip be easily reattached? Maybe I should be gentle pulling it off?
I am repainting the entire cavity a 4th time to hopefully get it from my 1000-500 ohms down to 11 ohms or so. Since wires are grounded on its top, was trying to let the low ohm-ed paint touch the switch's bottom.

Hi Unreg, Yes, the tip pushes right back on. I hope the painting goes well.
