The linked archive SH_SW.zip contains some files that will drive FEMM to make calculations of the sensitivity of a stacked humbucker or a sidewinder based on the same metalwork. The comparison is limited by being carried out in a 2D world but it does seem to provide some intuitive insights. The programs can be run from the last entry in the Files menu of FEMM. The files should all be unzipped into the same directory or folder. The file parameters.txt contains the necessary dimensions for a layout of a magnet above and below a baseplate with either stacked humbucker or sidewinder coils. The coils are divided into slices so that the variation of the flux through the depth or width of the coil can be taken into account. The baseplate thickness may be made zero if required, e.g. an air cored sidewinder can be constructed with the baseplate thickness zero and the coil y clearance enlarged.
If the sidewinder or stacked files are run separately, they report only to the Lua console. If they are run together, they write a text file with a detailed report of the flux in each part. The string is modelled by an array of magnets which produce a flux distribution similar to that observed. The sensitivity is arrived at by evaluating twice, moving the string vertically in between. The scaling of the sensitivity is arbitrary and only meaningful for comparisons.
