The last of the original Ventures has joined his bandmates in Heaven. Don Wilson, 88, passed away on Jan 22, 2022.
If you don't know who or what I'm talking about, shame on you for not knowing your history. Look him up. That's an order.

Sad. I hadn't heard that, and didn't realize he was the last. I'll have to run through "Pipeline" at my lesson tonight in honor.
This one is more a feature for Mel Taylor, the drummer, but I just love this version of "Wipe Out", live in Japan in 1966:

That was a shame to hear....  My guitar teacher was huge into these guys... Made me go and buy "Walk Don't Run Vol. 2"!! Best buy of my young music life!!! Our guitar group learned "Walk Don't Run '64", "Pipeline", "Pretty Woman", "House Of The Rising Sun".... Used to play these songs at recitals with a drum machine that he would program. He also took popular new songs of the day (ya I'm old) like "Livin on a Prayer" and "Owner of a Lonely Heart" and write them out like Venture's songs!! One guy played the 'vocals n solo' other guy played the rhythm, with a bass player n drum machine!! Cool memories, all from him lovin those guys.... (Was just looking up Mosrite's the other day....  ) |
