Is there a way to make karma viewable to members? I noticed I have 2 karma, and I am rather curious as to why I would have that. If not, disregard.
Jesus, Kyle. -20,975 has to be some sort of goal.

We can all view each others karma points. You have 2 because someone awarded them to you- they would have told you with a "+1" in the post where you merited it. Whoever it was then hit the "exalt" button under your avatar to actually add the 1 point. The other button is "smite", which subtracts karma. We don't use that around here, unless your name is Kyle!

I'm sorry, I should have clearified. I ment that I wish we could view the REASON why we were given an exaltation.

The reason is usually in the post. I don't know about the second point you got, but I gave you one here, on Sept. 15.

wanner, Maybe you made someone laugh, at one point in time.... Don't worry about it, just continue to march, and all will be well in wannastrat-land. ;D Besides, positive Karma points will have no effect on your score in the 2009 Year-End G-nutz Trivia Quiz. However, anyone with negative Karma will have to answer an additional series of Bonus questions, just to break even! Reason being, newey and I have a bet going as to just how much kyle you can actually pack into one head! HTH sumgai

Maybe wannastrat is onto something. Maybe we should give a reason for giving karma. While there are many different reasons for a +1, they can all be summed up in 4 categories. The applicable category would be stated immediately after the "+1". Each category would bear a 4-character abbreviation, thus being long enough to be searchable with our current software. Thus, we would have: 1) Karma for someone who has amused you. Might be for a pithy comment, or for someone who really brought the funny. This would be a "+1 (YMMD)" ( i.e., "You Made My Day") 2) Karma for someone who enlightened you, with a technical explanation or a good idea sufficient to impress you with their superiority. This would be designated "+1 (IBTY) ("I Bow To You") 3) Karma for someone who directed you to a useful resource, link, or answer. This would be a "+1 (EYFI) ("Eureka, You Found It!") 4) Karma for someone who solved your problem, by providing a diagram or description of a way forward. This would be abbreviated "+1 (SMSA)" ("Saved My Sorry A__") Once this takes hold, we can then mine our data and explain all the whys and wherefores of Karma giving. Then we can apply for a Federal research grant, write up a bunch of scholarly papers on karma at G-nutz2, become famous as "internet sociologists", and retire to a sunny beach condo in Miami . . . Or not.

The only other board on the entire web of which I claim membership instituted a new program similar to Karma points.
You don't exalt or smite, you thank a person. Clicking on the Thanks button opens a message window, and your prose goes right into the thread. We found that disturbing to the thread's continuity, so we had the author of that module change it to PM the window's contents to the "thankee" instead.
In addition, every time you post, your stats include the number of times you've been thanked, and the number of times you've thanked someone else. Call it an uber-Karma system, but it does let folks know why they've received a pat on the back.
And I should mention, that's not a ProBoards Forum, it's a MyBBS system, so we can't do anything like that here. Sorry 'bout that.

Mine to Strat was just because he posts a lotta neat finds and gets some threads rolling, but only had one point of karma. So, feeling that he deserved more, I threw it out there for general contributions.
5) Karma... FS&G?
